Why Every CRNA in Illinois Needs to be a Member of ISAPN

Posted over 1 year ago

CRNAs -- or Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist -- are vital to both the nursing profession and the healthcare field more broadly. According to Johnson & Johnson, a CRNA “administers and provides anesthesia-related care to patients before, during, and after surgery. CRNAs work with various medical practitioners, such as surgeons, dentists, and podiatrists, and act as a liaison between the patient and their leading care provider.”

Much like with other APRNs, ISAPN can be a valuable organization for CRNAs in Illinois. For those who don’t know, ISAPN is a professional organization dedicated to promoting and advocating for Advanced Practice Registered Nurses, including CRNAs. ISAPN members take leadership roles in today's health care fields, and are knowledgeable about the issues that surround their profession.

Read on for reasons why we believe that EVERY CRNA should be a member of ISAPN!

ISAPN Provides CRNAs with a Community

While becoming any kind of nurse can be challenging, RegisteredNurseRN.com states that “CRNA school is one of the most difficult schools to get into and complete.” Even once you are finished with school and begin working as a CRNA, you will have a large amount of responsibility and it is possible that you will have a crazy schedule. Luckily, when you join ISAPN, you will become part of a community that knows the stress that you, as a CRNA, will be under and can assist with navigating it!

ISAPN Will Help CRNAs Grow Their Professional Network

One of the best ways to advance your career is through making professional connections. In fact, professional relationships are so important that the American Nurse wrote that they “connect you to new colleagues, new opportunities, new information, and different practice settings.” You never know which of your connections may assist you with taking that next career step!

As a member of ISAPN, it will be easy for you to connect to professional nurses from all over the state! We already have events scheduled through October with ample time for meeting others. Beyond professional events, if you are still a CRNA student, we have a mentoring program to help you grow!

Additional Benefits of ISAPN

The examples that we listed are just a small piece of what ISAPN has to offer. Additional examples of our benefits include:

  • Accessibility to a statewide network of Illinois APRNs who share similar professional goals, who look for opportunities to share information quickly, and easy access to the most up-to-date APRN news including legislative and practice guidance.
  • Announcements of professional meetings, jobs, leadership opportunities, and national and state conferences.
  • Opportunities for leadership development, volunteer to serve on one of the ISAPN committees or task groups, such as governmental affairs, ISAPN PAC, program committee, region representation, and membership.

In short, ISAPN can support all CRNAs and help them with advancing their career. If you are a CRNA, what are you waiting for? Join ISAPN today!
