ISAPN’s 2022 Midwest Conference a Success

The 19th Midwest Conference was October 27–29, 2022, at Double Tree Hilton in Lisle, Illinois. Along with inspirational and informative sessions for APRNs, the conference included awards, board elections, and fundraising.

Attendees enjoyed connecting at the three-day conference filled with inspiring sessions and networking activities.

“I was so excited that I attended the ISAPN Midwest conference, especially celebrating 20 years this year! It was a powerful conference with important topics and networking with colleagues! It was well organized, and I was so glad I was able to attend,” says Dot Behrns APRN.

On Demand Available for Purchase

This was the first hybrid event ISAPN has hosted, and it was major success! The on-demand version of the conference is available to purchase for 20 more days in honor of the 20th anniversary of ISAPN. Hear informative sessions you may have missed or revisit an important session you attended in person.

“This year's conference was special for me because it was so good to be back in person and see familiar faces and meet new ones. [I enjoyed] having a session where we were able to have an interactive discussion on APRN business owners. There were a variety of breakout sessions, but I can go back and attend other sessions I am interested in and to obtain the additional CE,” says April Odom APRN, FNP-BC.

Marie Lindsey Award Winner

The Marie Lindsey Spirit of Advanced Practice Nursing Award is given to a licensed advanced practice registered nurse in Illinois who exemplifies the characteristics of leadership, commitment, and achievement in advanced practice nursing. The winner of the 2022 Marie Lindsey Spirit of Advanced Practice Nursing Award is Dr. Laura Tucco.

Dr. Tucco joined ISAPN as a charter member as a clinical nurse specialist. She has also served in academic roles at numerous universities, including as the director of the FNP program at St. Xavier University.

Dr. Tucco has served on the ISAPN board in three capacities: she joined the very first board in 2002 as the Region 2 Chairperson, followed by terms as Treasurer and Region 7 Chairperson.

Dr. Tucco is a tireless promoter of ISAPN, counseling numerous APRN students to become association members. Furthermore, at every AANP meeting she has ever attended, she has urged those from Illinois who were not ISAPN members to join the organization. Indeed, thanks to Dr. Tucco’s nominations, several ISAPN members received the AANP state awards for excellence, including ISAPN’s executive director, thus elevating the recognition of ISAPN throughout the AANP national community.

In short, Dr. Tucco is passionate about supporting patients, students, other APRNs, and the entire APRN profession.  She truly embodies the meaning of the Marie Lindsey Spirit of Advanced Practice Nursing Award and deserves to be recognized accordingly.

Fundraising for PAC

During the PAC event, former ISAPN board member Cassie Ishmael issued a challenge to the membership to make a donation to the PAC in honor of Sue Clark who has served as the ISAPN lobbyist for 20 years.

The challenge was accepted by current board member Amir Raad. Thank you, Amir! If you are interested in contributing to the PAC, donate here.

“This year I really enjoyed our PAC event celebrating the monumental progress that our lobbyist, Sue Clark, has achieved for all Illinois APRNs. I feel reinvigorated, motivated, and connected to my profession,” says Mary McNamara, DNP, APRN-FPA, CNP, FAANP.

By making a contribution towards ISAPN-PAC, you can help increase the resources we have to defend and expand the practice of APRNs. And, of course, 100% of your contribution is used to provide opportunities to meet with legislators and support them so they can continue to be present in Springfield and foster our interests.

Say a special thank-you to Sue Clark and help advance our interests in the state of Illinois.
