What are your credentials?
MSN, APRN, FNP-BC, PMHNP-BC
What is your area of practice/specialty?
Family & Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
If you could vacation anywhere, where would you go and why?
Thai-Burma border refugee camps. A new outbreak of civil war forced 4 million people to flee from their home villages and communities. As a result, the number of refugees surged at the Burma border, especially mothers, children with helpless elders. If I could, I would go to the border to be able to restore human care, respect, and dignity through my expertise as a nurse practitioner to restore their physical health. I would also be able to provide mental health support as part of my repertoire as a psychiatric nurse practitioner to help heal the displacement and post traumatic stress that these individuals are going through.
How many years have you worked in healthcare?
8 years and 5 days!
What inspired you to become a member of ISAPN?
Since I’ve arrived and started working in the state of Illinois, I looked for an organization that I shared similar values with and could help me grow. ISAPN is the leading professional organization that represents the voices of nurses and nurse practitioners. By this virtue, it inspires me to become a leader. In addition, ISAPN leaders and advocates positively motivate me to advocate the state of Illinois to become a Full Practice Authority state, which is a resounding achievement locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally.
What is your favorite book?
Gesundheit! by Maureen Mylander and Patch Adams
If you couldn't be an APRN, what other job would you try?
I want to work for the World Health Organization and serve the world's underserved population in any capacity possible. I believe that the world needs more people that care about others in and around the world. It is through human caring that we can make effective change to people's lives for the better.
How has being a member of ISAPN benefited you?
I have found networking opportunities with other professionals, enhancing professional knowledge, up-to-date legal advice, and professional practices recommendations. Also, people within the organization have inspired and empowered other professionals to improve beyond their comfort zones.
If you could go back in time and give yourself advice as a student. What would it be?
I would Enjoy, embrace, and remind every minute of the virtue of human caring. I realize after practicing that we are all hidden treasures that are able to serve, touch, transform, and save people and their communities.
