DNP, APRN, FNP-BC - Director of Professional Practice, APPs
How long have you been a member of ISAPN?
8 months
What is your area of practice/specialty?
Family Nurse Practitioner - Professional Development - Administration - Adjunct Professor
If you could vacation anywhere, where would you go and why?
My dream vacation would be to go to Greece. I love history and architecture. Greece gives a combination of both. I have also heard the food is delicious and I love to food :-)
How many years have you worked in healthcare?
I started my healthcare journey when I was 17 years old. I obtained my CNA certification while in high school. I originally wanted to become a doctor, but life pushed me in a different direction. I have been in healthcare for a total of 22 years.
What inspired you to become a member of ISAPN?
I became a member of ISAPN to be more aware and involved with things that impact advanced practice nursing on the state level. In my role as a director of APPs, it is crucial to understand the changing landscape of practice for APRNs. Additionally, I wanted to advance professionally and advocate more for APRNs.
What is your favorite book?
My all-time favorite book is I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings.
If you couldn't be an APRN, what other job would you try?
I would teach elementary school students. I have a passion for teaching. I also love the fact teachers do not work on holidays and can have Summers off.
How has being a member of ISAPN benefited you?
ISAPN has benefited me in many ways. I feel like I am more knowledgeable about things happening at the state capitol regarding APRN practice in Illinois. It has also helped tremendously with networking. I have made many connections and look forward to making more friends. Please send me a friend request :-) I also cannot wait to attend my first Midwest APRN Conference in October.
If you could go back in time and give yourself advice as a student. What would it be?
If I could go back in time as a student, I would not be so hard on myself. Becoming a nurse practitioner was no easy feat. I was a little inpatient and very hard on myself. I would have spent more time encouraging myself instead of beating myself up. Rome was not built in one day.
