Christopher Galloway

What are your credentials?
DNP, APRN-FPA, FNP-BC, PMHNP-BC, MOT

How long have you been a member of ISAPN?
5 years

What is your area of practice/specialty?
Family Practice and Psychiatric-Mental Health

If you could vacation anywhere, where would you go and why?
Choosing just one place to visit is incredibly difficult for me because there are so many amazing destinations out there. However, if I had to pick, I’d definitely choose an African safari and Ibiza. An African safari would be an incredible way to experience wildlife up close and immerse myself in nature’s beauty. On the other hand, Ibiza’s stunning beaches and vibrant nightlife offer the perfect mix of relaxation and excitement. Both are on my bucket list, and I’d love to explore them both!

How many years have you worked in healthcare?
I have worked in some capacity in healthcare for 20 years.

What inspired you to become a member of ISAPN?
I chose to become a member of the Illinois Society of Advanced Practice Nurses because I was encouraged by other members and saw the value in the networking opportunities, local meetings, and conferences/events they offer. Additionally, I wanted to support a local organization that places advanced practice nurses at the forefront of its efforts to advance our profession. Being part of this community allows me to contribute to important initiatives and stay connected with fellow professionals.

What is your favorite book?
I’m not an avid reader and typically stick to textbooks, but one book that made a significant impression on me is Five Days at Memorial. I read it during my first master’s program, and it was eye-opening. The book explores the harrowing events at Memorial Medical Center in New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina, focusing on the ethical dilemmas and difficult decisions faced by the staff under extreme conditions. It really made me reflect on the challenges of crisis management and the complexities of healthcare in disaster situations, prompting me to delve deeper into these important issues.

If you couldn't be an APRN, what other job would you try?
If I were not an APRN, I would likely pursue a career in law. I’ve always admired how the legal profession can affect positive change and advocate for individuals’ rights. A career in law would allow me to continue making a meaningful impact, including advocating for the rights and interests of nurses. This would provide a different yet equally rewarding way to support and champion the profession I deeply care about.

How has being a member of ISAPN benefited you?
Being a member of ISAPN has been incredibly beneficial for me. It has provided valuable networking opportunities with fellow advanced practice nurses, allowing me to exchange ideas and collaborate on various initiatives. The conferences and events have offered insights into the latest developments in our field, enhancing my professional knowledge and skills. Additionally, being part of a supportive community that actively promotes the interests of advanced practice nurses has reinforced my commitment to the profession and provided a platform to contribute to important causes.

If you could go back in time and give yourself advice as a student. What would it be?
If I could go back and give myself advice as a student, I would emphasize the importance of embracing challenges and staying open to new opportunities. I’d remind myself to seek out diverse experiences and engage actively with mentors and peers, as these connections and experiences can greatly enrich my learning and growth. It’s also crucial to remember that persistence and adaptability are key to overcoming obstacles and achieving long-term success.
