ISAPN is proud to introduce and welcome new Board Members! Read all about our new Secretary, Mya Yee Nandar

Mya Yee  Nandar, MSN, APRN, FNP-BC, PMHNP-BC, is a Family & Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with an extensive nursing background. Her dedication to serving vulnerable populations and commitment to advancing nursing in Illinois make her a valuable addition to the Board.

All About Mya

Mya’s path to the ISAPN board is a testament to her resilience and dedication to nursing. Originally from a war-torn region, her journey brought her to the United States, where she pursued her nursing career across Hawaii, Indiana, and Illinois. In 2016, she graduated from the School of Nursing at the University of Hawaii, where she was active as Vice President of the UH International Students Association and received the University Awards for Leadership and the Promotion of Transcultural Nursing.

She gained critical care nursing experience in Indiana and went on to complete her FNP degree at Indiana University South Bend (IUSB). Pursuing a deeper specialization, she later earned a post-master’s Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner certification.

Today, Mya serves as a dual board-certified Family Medicine and Psychiatry Mental Health Nurse Practitioner in a community clinic in greater Chicago, focusing on providing comprehensive care to underserved populations, including refugee communities and those experiencing homelessness, addiction, and complex medical and mental health needs.

Why Mya Joined the ISAPN Board

Mya joined ISAPN two years ago because it is the leading professional organization that represents the voices of APRNs. When she started working as an APRN in Illinois, Mya wanted an organization that shared similar values to her own. She found that within ISAPN.

“ISAPN leaders and advocates positively motivate me to advocate the state of Illinois to become a Full Practice Authority state, which is a resounding achievement locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally.”

Not only has ISAPN supported her through her nursing journey, the organization also inspired her to become a leader.

“Nursing has been characterized as having a strong ethic of service. To continue growth in knowledge and advancement which have reshaped nurses' roles over the past 150 years.”

Our New Board of Directors Secretary: Mya Yee Nandar

Congratulations Mya on this outstanding achievement! With Mya now serving as Secretary, she brings not only her skills but also her dedication to fostering growth and envisioning a future where nursing continues to evolve. “To honor the past and to envision a better nursing future,” she says, reflecting her respect for nursing’s deep-seated history of service and her hope for its continued advancement.

ISAPN is proud and excited to welcome you to the Board of Directors. Join us in welcoming Mya as she begins this new journey with ISAPN.
