ISAPN Member of the Month: Corinne Westing
Posted 6 days ago
At ISAPN, we are proud to recognize APRNs who lead with purpose, compassion, and advocacy. This February, we are honored to spotlight Corinne Westing, CNM, APRN-FPA, as our ISAPN Member of the Month.
Called to Midwifery, Grounded in Partnership
For Corinne, both the nursing model of care and the midwifery model felt like a calling. They were drawn to the opportunity to partner with people across the reproductive lifespan supporting them not just clinically, but holistically.
Their values the ability to hold both the “big picture” clinical knowledge and the soft skills that honor birth as a lived, human experience. Respecting the autonomy, dignity, and stories of birthing people is not an add-on to they work, it is central to it.
Empowered Through ISAPN
A member of ISAPN for one year, Corinne shares that staying connected to current APRN issues and to leaders within the profession empowers them to practice at the highest level of the license, both in the clinic and in the community.
Through social media, LinkedIn, and ISAPN updates, Corrine remains engaged in advocacy and policy conversations that shape the future of advanced practice nursing in Illinois.
Cultivating Calm in Care
When asked how their practice has evolved, Corinne reflected on something simple yet powerful: cultivating calm. In busy clinical environments, especially in birth spaces, creating an atmosphere of steadiness and reassurance matters. If Corinne had a theme song playing as, it might be something like “Beautiful People” by Aly Halpert, a reflection of their focus on honoring the humanity in every person they serve.
Lessons from the Field
One lesson that has stayed with Corinne is this: ask permission before discussing anything regarding body size.
Corrine reminds us that being a clinician does not automatically grant access to every aspect of a person’s body or lived experience. Respect, consent, and autonomy are foundational to ethical, patient-centered care, especially in reproductive health.
A Vision for Healthcare
If they could implement one change overnight, Corinne’s answer is clear: single-payer healthcare for all. Corinne believes healthcare is a human right and continues to advocate for systems that ensure equitable access to care, particularly for birthing people and families.
A Resource Worth Sharing
Corinne recommends Evidence-Based Birth as a valuable resource for clinicians and families alike, helping bridge the gap between research and real-world birth experiences.
Corinne would also love to sit down with Jennifer Worth, author of Call the Midwife, whose life and legacy in midwifery continues to inspire generations of providers.
Beyond the Birth Space
Outside of clinical practice, Corinne is an avid sourdough baker, an impressive feat given their on-call schedule and parenting responsibilities.
If Hollywood made a movie about Corinne's life, the cast Mae Martin, appreciating their humor and energy.
And a recent act of kindness that stood out to Corinne? A neighbor shoveling snow when they couldn’t make it out early enough, a reminder that community care extends beyond clinic walls.
Advocacy in Action
Corinne is passionate about advocacy for healthcare as a human right and continues to engage in conversations that elevate reproductive justice and midwifery care.
